PNW Cyclone FFL

Pacific North West Cyclone Fantasy Football League

The PNW Cyclone FFL league is a unique fantasy football league slated to start up whenever we have enough people to start honestly. We are currently looking for potential owners who live in or between Seattle and Bellingham, and will probably meet for drafts wherever the bulk of membership ends up being. It is a new format I have not tested and while I am trying to recruit to bring it up to full strength (16 members) eventually, for now I am looking for at least 4 to start it up and run a test year for the new format. Due to the unique format of the league owners can be added mid-season and the league can successfully function with any multiple of 4 owners so you can sign up even during the season until we reach the target number.

The uniqueness of the league comes from the fact that it is designed to maximize the fun of the draft party and minimize the despair of being stuck with a sub-par roster if you mess up a draft once it is done or an injury derails your team. This is accomplished by holding redrafts throughout the season. Every three weeks membership will be split into divisions of 4 participants and a 4 team draft will occur for each division (faster than a normal draft). Each division will only be able to draft from 8 NFL teams (drawn at random before the draft) and then every team in the division will play each other once before the next draft. In a full league of 16 you will end up being in a group with and play a game against everyone in the league once (pre-planned schedule), but division assignments will be a little more random until then. We will try to balance out division assignments as much as possible.

The plan is for all division drafts to be done simultaneously at a get-together location each time (probably during Sunday Afternoon or Evening game times), locations to be determined by the membership. The drafts will be held online so if someone cannot physically be at a live draft they can still participate. Proposed rules and line-up configuration is listed below along with links to join and my contact email address. Let me know if you have questions or suggestions. If you sign up I will contact you with more details as well.

Below are the proposed rules for the league (scoring and roster spots are flexible):

Starting Lineup & Bench

QB - 1
RB - 2
WR - 3
TE - 1
PK - 1
DL - 2
LB - 2
DB - 2
Bench - * See note
* Trades and droping/adding players are not allowed since you only have them for a three week period. The draft has up to 32 rounds to ensure you have plenty of backups and you can stop whenever you feel you have enough players to cover your three weeks. If during the course of those three weeks a team finds they don't have enough players to fill a lineup due to injury or poor planning they can petition the commissioner to add available players from their assigned player pool which will only happen in the case of legitimate crisis. If you have players not on the IR to start you will not be granted this exemption.

Draft Notes

Draft order will rotate in a way that every team will start at least once in each position (1-4) through the five rounds of division rotation. So you won't end up picking 4th in each draft. Drafts will follow the Thue–Morse sequence (Click here for Wikipedia page) with a 0 being the draft order of the first round and 1 being the reverse order. Think of it as a recursive snake draft. I'll wait to see what the league membership wants to do regarding whether the 32 NFL teams are drawn and assigned to divisions a week prior to give players time to prepare or if they're drawn immediately before the draft to maximize draft excitement. NFL teams will be assigned completely at random but with consideration to spread out teams with the same bye week equally among the division for balance.
